1934 Joanne 2021

Joanne D. (Dalton) Reid

January 8, 1934 — June 27, 2021

Grandma Great is what Joanne Delores (Dalton) Reid (87) asked her great- grandchildren to call her.  And Joanne was a Great Grandma!  She poured her life into each one.  All Joanne’s grandchildren, both near and far, enjoyed an exceptional, wonderful relationship with this loving woman.  She was intentional in the way she cultivated each relationship with her 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Trips to national parks, zoos, Sea world, Minnesota and much more would excite each child with eager anticipation as they looked forward to spending time and creating wonderful memories with this exceptional woman.  Joanne was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As a child, Joanne loved Cleveland!   Memories of walking, swimming, working, friendships and attending John Hey high school would transport her to her childhood and bring a big smile to her face.   Joanne had a lifelong passion for Lake Erie.  She returned to it as often as she could to remember and delight in its’ cathartic waters. Soon after she began her family, Joanne and her husband James C. Reid moved to Portage County Ohio. Joanne wanted to raise her children in a more country/suburban setting.  The country lifestyle transformed this city girl.  She loved it! When traveling in a car, a pastoral scene would, “Take her breath away,” by its beauty! Joanne raised her five children, Kevin, Jack, Donna, Tom and Steve in Streetsboro, Ohio on  Frost road and Wiencek road.   When all of her children were nearly grown, Joanne moved to Randolph, Ohio. She truly loved this house and its expansive property. It gave her, “Room to breathe!”  Several years later, her family now grown, she moved to Ravenna, Ohio where she lived for over 35 years and spent the rest of her life. “The voice of Ravenna Assembly of God,” is what Joanne became known during her 37 years as secretary of the church she was devoted to and cherished.  Joanne ministered to countless souls over the telephone and in person.  Joanne had many more lucrative employment offers, but she was faithful to God’s calling to minister as church secretary to the community and the church that was central to her life.  Joanne retired at age 70 and soon became a volunteer at University Hospital, Portage County in the Chaplain’s office.  An integral part of the ministry at the hospital, she served with dedication and conviction.  At one point, the hospital acknowledged her as, “Volunteer of the Year!”. Joanne’s Pentecostal Faith was the singular, distinguishing, motivation that guided and governed all other areas in her life.  Joanne’s Jehovah Jireh, (God will provide), faithfully provided and sustained her throughout her devoted life.  Joanne spent her life proclaiming and guiding others to the gospel, “Good News,” of Jesus Christ. Joanne leaves us with a personal example and a rich legacy of faithful Christian devotion. Joanne’s last days were spent encouraging family and friends to make sure their heart was right with God, as she proclaimed, “I want to see you on the other side!”  Friends and family will be received at Ravenna Assembly of God on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 9:30 AM until time of memorial service at 10:30 AM. Pastor Gary Beck will officiate. Private burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bedford Heights. Joanne's favorite color was red. The family is asking attendees to wear red to her funeral in her honor.
