Joseph S Cafero

June 21, 1928 — February 23, 2016

Joseph S. Cafero, 87, resident of the Gables of Kent Ridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at UH Portage Medical Center.
Joe was born June 21, 1928, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Mary (Stuber) and Anthony Cafero.  He  served in the US Army before graduating from Kent State University where he met his wife the former, Maureena  Chionchio, and lived in Ravenna most of his adult life. He had various careers as a car salesman/dealer, employed at the OBES, real estate agent/appraiser for Deluca Associates and retiring as Bailiff for the Common Pleas Court of Judge Joseph Kainrad.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Italian American Society, and the KSU Alumni Association.  He was an avid fan of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Cincinnati Bengals football and Yankees baseball.
His wife of 60 years, Maureena, preceded him in death in 2012. He is survived by his daughters Claudia (Monty) Miller of Kent, Mary Michael (Duke) Clay of Atlanta and son Marc of Houston.   He will be missed by his four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeff) Camp, Kathleen (Patrick) Lynch, Ann (Cory) Cottrill,  Joseph Woodward and great-grandsons, Brayden Camp and Pierson Lynch.  He has one surviving brother, Anthony, Jr. (Jeep), of Steubenville and three sisters that preceded him in death, Rose Habowski, Delores Green and Margie DeVittorio.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m.  Monday, February 29, at Immaculate Conception Church with Father  David Misbrenner officiating with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ravenna.  Calling hours will be held from 2:00- 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes, Ravenna Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or Robinson Memorial Foundation Hospice Fund.
The family would like to express appreciation to his caregivers at the Gables of Kent Ridge, the nurses and aides of 2 East and 2 West at UH Portage Medical Center plus their Hospice staff.
