Joseph C. Salamon, Jr., 73, of Ravenna, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at UH Portage Medical Center, after a courageous battle with multiple cancers. A lifelong resident of Ravenna, Joe was born on April 19, 1951, to the late Joseph and Rose (Stettner) Salamon, Sr.
Joe graduated from Ravenna High School with the class of 1969, where he formed friendships that he cherished and maintained throughout his entire life. He fiercely loved his family, friends, and the place he called home. Known for his amazing sense of humor, Joe was a great joke-teller who delivered each joke as if it were the first time, laughing at himself and sharing the joy with those around him. Even in his final days, his humor remained a source of light and strength. Beyond his humor, Joe was known for his kind and caring heart, facing each day and every challenge with grace, even when times were tough.
He took great pride in building his family’s home with his own hands—a true labor of love that stands as a testament to his dedication and skill. Around his house, he was always creating or fixing, pouring his energy into making things better.
He cherished days and nights on the family farm, relaxing in his gazebo and soaking in the peace of his surroundings. In his younger years, Joe enjoyed boating and skiing, and later, he developed a love for travel. Joe served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 2016 from Hudson High School, where he proudly served as head custodian and made many more lifelong friends.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Linda R. (Ortiz) Salamon, whom he married on December 13, 1975; his daughter, Amber R. Salamon; his son Chad J. Salamon (and partner Sarah W. Young); his grandson, Asher J. Salamon; his siblings Carl (Constance CJ) Salamon, Marilyn (Bob) Morgan, James (Deniece) Salamon, his nephews, his niece, his great-nieces and his loyal canine companions, who brought him endless joy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospital staff and hospice nurses who provided such compassionate care and support throughout Joe’s journey.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local blood bank or consider donating blood in Joe’s honor, a gesture that would embody his spirit of giving back to others in need.
