Josepha A. "Jo Ann" Beres

Josepha A. "JoAnn" Beres, 77, of Streetsboro, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at University Hospitals in Cleveland, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on January 31, 1949, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, JoAnn was the beloved daughter of the late George and Anna (Bacha) Safko. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald (Helen) Safko and Robert (Dolores) Safko.

JoAnn's greatest joy in life was her family. She shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Karl J. Beres, who she married on June 13, 1970. Together, they built a life centered on love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering dedication to one another. Their marriage was a true partnership and the foundation of a family filled with love and cherished memories.

JoAnn leaves behind her loving husband, Karl; her children, Justina (Brad) Lanscioni and Nicholas Beres; and her cherished grandchildren, Griffin and Bennett Lanscioni, who were the lights of her life. Nothing brought JoAnn greater happiness than being "Gigi" to her grandsons. Whether cheering them on, spoiling them with treats, or simply spending time together, she treasured every moment with them.

JoAnn was a talented baker and entrepreneur who turned her passion into her business, JoAnn Cakes and Candy. Through countless cakes, cookies, candies, and desserts, she helped friends, neighbors, and families celebrate life's most important milestones. Her kitchen was often filled with the sweet aroma of something baking, and her creations were made with as much love as skill.

Family gatherings were JoAnn's specialty. She loved hosting holidays and celebrations, always preparing enough food to feed an army. No one ever left her home hungry, and everyone left feeling loved. Her family will forever remember the comfort of her cooking, the warmth of her hospitality, and the joy she brought to every gathering. She was also fiercely competitive during family game nights and never missed an opportunity for a little friendly competition.

JoAnn found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved sitting outside on a beautiful day, enjoying the fresh air and watching the birds in her yard. She had a gift for gardening and took great pride in her flowers, nurturing blooms that brightened her home and brought beauty to those around her. She adored her dogs and cats, cheered enthusiastically for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians, enjoyed a good afternoon nap, and never met a donut she didn't like.

Those who knew JoAnn will remember her energetic presence and the soundtrack of her life: a familiar hum while she worked, a favorite song softly sung, or the steady tap of her foot to a tune only she could hear. She carried music, kindness, sas, and love wherever she went. She may not have always known the words or kept perfect rhythm, but that only made her more endearing to those around her. We will never forget her storytelling, or perhaps more accurately, her talent for embellishing a story now and then. Her laughter, warmth, and larger-than-life personality brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

More than anything, JoAnn loved fiercely. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother, a beloved grandmother, and a loyal friend. Her family was her world, and she dedicated her life to caring for those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the memories she leaves behind, and the countless lives she touched through her generosity, warmth, humor, and of course, her cakes.
