Josephine A. "Nellie" Polichena

Josephine A. (Nellie) Polichena, 97, a lifelong Ravenna resident, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at UH Portage Medical Center, with family by her side.  Nellie was born September 21, 1924 in Ravenna to Anthony and Mary (Gregoli) Favazzo. A member of the Greatest Generation, her resilience, kindness, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by those who knew her. She loved all of her family and friends. Nellie belonged to Immaculate Conception Church and The Infant of Prague. She attended Bohecker’s Business School and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Polichena Motors. She also worked for the Portage County Engineers Office, Amtek, and Wright's Department Store and volunteered at Robinson Memorial Hospital and The Auxiliary. Nellie is survived by her daughter Jody (John "Mick") Sova, grandchildren: J.J. Polichena (Mikell Riddle), Lissa (Tim)Reedy, Katrina (Dan) Peyton, Carrie (Brian) Reedy, Erin (Karoly) Bozan and David Sova (Sarah Ulam), 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, son Jeffery and siblings Carmella Wiczen, Bessie Anthony and Mary Pinion. Friends may call from 10 AM until time of funeral mass at 11 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father William Kraynak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests any donations to go to Immaculate Conception Church or Charity of your choice.
