Kennard B. Hays 81 of Randolph went on to be with the Lord on Thursday June 23, 2011 at Akron City Hospital. He was born July 18,1929 in West Union, WVA to the late Howard R. and Nellie (Schrader) Hays. Mr. Hays retired from Goodyear Aerospace in Akron where he worked as a machinist and retired as a supervisor. He attended the Marlboro Christian Church and was a member of the Randolph lions Club. Mr. Hays was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Ravenna American legion, the Ravenna VFW Post 1055, the Combat Infantry Badge Association and received two stars for combat jumps during Korea. He was also a member of the n" Airborne Division Association, the 82nd Airborne Division Association, a lifetime member of the Buckeye Chapter of the Rakkasans 187th Airborne, the 138th Korean War Veterans Association, a lifetime member of the 18thth Airborne Regimental Combat team, s" Company, 2nd Battalion. He was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Regiment at Fort Campbell in 2001 by the 187th Infantry. This past April he received a medallion from the Korean Government. Survivors include his wife of 56 ~ years Della (Ball) Hays, son Kennard R. (Becky) Hays of Shalersville, daughters Christine A. (Tony) Monaco of Dellroy, Ohio, Joan M. (Russell) Penix of Randolph, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sisters Jean Kirkpatrick, Bernita May and sister in law Sylvia Hays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George and sisters Mary Evelyn Petry, Vivian Opperman, Sue McKee, Glenda Smith, and Patty Hicks. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday June 27, 2011 and on Tuesday June 28, 2011 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Services at 11:00 AM at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel with Rev Ed Harnish officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery Twinsburg, Ohio.
