Kenneth L Pospichel

October 5, 1950 — December 10, 2020

Rootstown

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kenneth L. Pospichel, 70, announces the sudden passing of their devoted husband, Dad and Grandpa on Thursday December 10, 2020. He was born on October 5, 1950 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Bernard and Phyllis (Hall) Pospichel.  Ken was a member of the Ravenna High School Class of 1968 and earned his degree in Criminal Justice from Kent State University.  He began his career with the Ravenna PD before moving on to the Tallmadge City Police, where he served the community as a patrolman, detective, and evidence room administrator.  Ken was also a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of the FOP Lodge of Tallmadge.  He lived in Rootstown for the past 39 years where he and his loving wife Jennifer raised their three children.  An avid Cleveland and Ohio State sports fan, he loved playing his word puzzles, welcoming all challengers.  Many knew him as Coach Ken, and through all the years he never missed one of his children’s games or activities.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, assigning them building block challenges and always making sure they “brushed their fangs”.  Laid back humor permeated everything he did.  He always had a joke or a one-liner to share, and if you saw everyone else in the room laughing then chances are the joke may have been on you.  All any of us want is the chance to hear one more from him.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Connie and Phyllis and his Mother-In-Law, Betty King. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jennifer A. (King) Pospichel whom he married on February 7, 1976. His sons Greg (Valerie) Pospichel, Kevin (Julie) Pospichel and cherished daughter Kara (Tom) Smith also surviving are his grandchildren Amelia & Eliana Pospichel, and Jack & Blake Smith, his sisters Bonnie (John) Rude and Barbara Pospichel, his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and friends, including special long-time friends Nancy and Gary Christman and the infamous “Breakfast Club.”  Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Monday December 14, 2020 at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Heart Association or the Celiac Disease Foundation.  Condolences and memories of Ken may be shared with his family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
