Lawrence W. King 94 of Rootstown passed away Wednesday October 26, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 2, 1917 in Ravenna Twp., Ohio to the late Joseph and Mary Belle (Workman) King. Mr. King has been part of Portage County all his life, graduating from the Ravenna Twp. School in 1936 where he still keeps in contact with his friends and extended family and has lived in Rootstown since 1958. He retired in 1981 from Evenflo Company "formerly Pyramid Rubber" in Ravenna after 36 years of service where he worked as a supervisor. Mr. King is a lifetime member and considered an elder statesman of the First Church of God in Ravenna in which his mother helped found the church in 1913. He wore many hats in the church, being the Treasurer, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. He really enjoyed sports, watching football, basketball and baseball and also enjoyed traveling. He loved to travel the state of Ohio and in the past two years he has traveled from shore to shore , visiting places from Washington State to Maryland to Florida and his last trip was to West Virginia in August. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, being a devoted husband, father, family man and friend who was loved by all. He is survived by his children David P. )Erma) King of Brimfield, James L. (Cheryl) King of Rootstown, Carolyn Curry of Ravenna, his grandchildren Rick, Mike, Steve King, Tracy Stevens, Kari King, Shannon Smith, James King II and Jeff Curry. Also surviving him are 16 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Esther on February 15, 2007, his brothers Paul, Ezra and Arze King and sisters Neoma Salamon, Lillian Benson and Inez Large. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-4 PM October 30, 2011 at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel and on Monday October 31, 2011 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at the First Church of God. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Ravenna, Ohio . The family would like thank Robinson Memorial Hospice and VNA , especially Shelly and Lisa.
