Mary Spencer passed away Sunday, October 21, at the age of 100. She was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1912 to Bert and Nina Downer. She was a woman who was blessed -- and blessed others -- with much love, compassion, and unfailing good humor. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lowell Spencer, the first mayor of Streetsboro. She is survived by a son, Richard (Joy) Spencer of Stow, daughter Jean Lefurgey (the late Robert) of Hudson, granddaughters Sharon (Frank) Fitch of Jackson, Janet (Shayn) Weideman of Ravenna, Cassie (William) Therrell of South Carolina, and seven great grandchildren, Erin and Courtney Fitch and Robert, Callie, Caroline, Charlotte and Duncan Therrell.
The family extends their deep gratitude to the staff of Heather Knoll Nursing Home in Tallmadge, with special thanks to Mary’s long term caregiver and friend, Debbie Emery.
