Maurice K. Near 87 of Ravenna died Monday, October 11, 2010. He was born April 11, 1923 in Hart, MI to the late Marriott and Vesta (Crofe) Near. A US Army veteran of WWII , he has lived in Portage County since 1964 and worked in maintenance at Kent State University . Survivors include in daughters Carol Gould of Ravenna and Dottie Near of Akron, grandchildren Jamie Hunt , Rob Hunt and Aaron Near and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Linda Near. Cremation has taken place, memorial calling hours will be from 6 - 8 PM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
