Merel Owen Jones

Beloved brother and uncle, Merle Owen Jones passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026. Born on March 17, 1938 to Owen and Erma Jones, Merle was a kind soul and a spiritual man.

A member of the Christ Community Chapel, he was a devote Christian. His faith was very important to him. He served in the Army Active Duty followed by the Army Reserves and he worked for many years as a Newspaper Delivery Driver for the Akron Beacon Journal.

He loved playing card games and games of chance, especially with his many friends at Mulberry Gardens. When he was younger, he relished seeing the world while on the many ocean cruises he took. And he thoroughly enjoyed going to lunch weekly at The Hartville Kitchen with his friends.

Whenever we gathered for holiday dinners, birthday dinners, or just dinners in general, there was never a question as to who was going to say the blessing. It was always Uncle Merle. His calm and steady voice was always comforting to us all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Erma, his brother Lurn, and his great nephew Zach. He is survived by his sister Shirley (Earl) Lohr, nephews Rick (Stephanie) Lohr, Russ (Jacque’) Lohr, Jeff Jones, and Randy Jones, great nieces Ashley (Casey) Holt, Kaylee (Ryan) Curtis, Demi (Jordan) Foos, and great nephew Mitch Lohr. He is also survived by 3 great-great nephews and 4 great-great nieces.
