Patricia (Patti) L. Colecchi, age 57, passed away on August 17, 2015, at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center after a courageous four year battle with colon cancer.
Despite her illness Patti remained strong and maintained a very positive attitude centered on her love and commitment to her extended family. Patti was born in Ravenna, Ohio on December 28, 1957, to Josephine and Paul Colecchi.
She was a life-long resident of Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1976.
Patti began working while in high school as a front office associate for Dr. David Palmstrom and continued to work there after graduation.
Patti also worked for several other physicians before accepting a position as a Scheduler/Pre-Registration Clerk in Central Scheduling at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Patti retired from Robinson in 2012. Patti enjoyed travelling, shopping, collecting Boyds Bears, reading Harlequin romance novels and the national tabloid magazines.
Without question though her first love was spending time with her family, especially her nephews and nieces and great nephews. Patti was preceded in death by her father Paul.
Patti was very devoted to her mother, Josephine, who survives her.
Patti is also survived by her sisters and brothers – Linda (Arley) White;
Stephen (Andrea) Colecchi; Carol (Charles) Schofield; and Robert (Tracey) Colecchi. Patti spent a lot of her time involved in loving and supporting her nephews and nieces and she was very proud of all of them.
She will always be remembered as the “Number 1 Aunt”.
Patti is survived by her eleven nephews and nieces:
Melissa (Sean) Cutright, Matthew Colecchi, Cory Schofield,
Janelle (Mike) Abrams, Brian White,
Colleen Schofield, Sarah Colecchi,
Anthony (Angela) Colecchi,
Kevin White, Julia Colecchi and Allison Colecchi. Despite her struggles dealing with her illness over the last several years Patti found great joy in the birth of three great-nephews: Gabriel Cutright, age 2, Elijah Cutright, age 1, and Matteo Colecchi, age 1.
Her time with them was special and brought her much happiness.
She was also looking forward to the birth of her first great niece, Selina Colecchi, who will be arriving in November. Patti is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Vincent Colecchi; Nancy Mascio; Benny and Josephine Colecchi; and Pauline Ventura, as well as, numerous cousins and friends. The family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to Drs. Emmanuel Yanelli, Bashar Mubashir, Frederick Marquinez, and Saif Rehman and their office staffs for their care and support.
A special thank you is also extended to the entire 2 East staff at UH Portage Medical Center. Calling hours will be from 5 Pm to 8 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the University Parish Newman Center in Kent with Father Steve Agostino officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Patti’s memory to Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice or the Newman Center.
