Patrick Sanford, 74, of Ravenna and formerly of Akron, passed away May 5, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born June 20, 1941 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Edward and Dorothy Sanford.
Pat enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Nothing brought “Papa” more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was having them at his cottage on the lake, watching one of their many sporting events, or attending a musical recital. Gardening, playing golf and spending winters in Florida were also some of his favorite activities. Pat proudly served in the U.S. Army. Pat was a skilled sales representative and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring, he spent much time working as a volunteer at the Hospice Care Center of Ridgewood Rd. Pat is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Cynthia and Michael, and his loving wife of 44 years, Sylvia. He is survived by his children, Ron (Heather), Chris (Tami), Holly McLaughlin (Thom) and Randy Sanford, and grandchildren Thomas, Madeline, Keira, Hannah, Hailey, Davis, Sloane and Tatum, siblings Laurie Linn, Margery Hancock and Steve Sanford.
Calling hours will be from 4 - 8 PM Tuesday May 10, at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna. Mass and Christian burial will be Wednesday May 11, at 11:00 at St. Peter of the Fields, 3847 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333.
