Paul J. Becht, 66, of Streetsboro, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his residence surrounded by love. He was born August 25, 1960, in Lorain, Ohio, to James T. and Martha (Ibosh) Becht. Paul was a finish carpenter and cabinet builder.
Paul found joy in the simple things in life and in the hobbies that allowed him to spend time outdoors, work with his hands, and make memories with the people he loved. He enjoyed every minute he could spend on his boat, trolling for walleye on Lake Erie, where he could relax and enjoy one of his favorite pastimes with his wife. He was also a lifelong NASCAR fan and rarely missed the excitement of a race.
Paul had a green thumb and took great pride in his gardening. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes, embracing the freedom and adventure from being on two wheels.
Paul had a natural curiosity and loved figuring things out and then building them with his own hands. He especially loved working with wood and was truly a master carpenter. Whether he was creating something from scratch, repairing something that needed fixing, or simply figuring out how to make an idea come to life, Paul took pride in doing things himself and doing them well.
Paul was especially talented when it came to fixing things. During his years as a Tool Tech at The Home Depot, his knowledge and ability to repair small engines earned him the affectionate nickname, “The Engine Whisperer.” He had a natural gift for figuring out how things worked and getting them running again.
Above all, Paul cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, his willingness to help, his incredible ability to build and fix just about anything, and the many memories made together. His love for his family, his passions, and the simple pleasures of life will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. (Wood), with whom he shared 45 years of marriage; children Adam (Lizbeth Reddick) Becht and Alisha Hernandez; grandchildren Skylynn and Harmony; and siblings Roger (Sandra) Becht, Andrew (Doris) Becht, Matt (Connie) Becht, and Tom (Lynn) Becht. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Cpl. Jason Hernandez; and his sister, Ruth A. Becht.
Paul's Celebration of Life will be held on October 10, 2026 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Shalersville Town Hall, 9090 SR-44, Ravenna, OH. Cremation has taken place. Condolences and memories of Paul may be shared at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
