Pearl Ruby Hairston 79 of Ravenna went home with her Lord on Monday April 7, 2014 at her daughter's residence in Columbus, Ohio. She was born March 5, 1935 in Worthington , West Virginia to the late Charles Tolliver and Viola Tolliver-McShepard. Mrs. Hairston has lived in Ravenna since 1962 and was formerly of Morgantown, WVA. Pearl attended Monongalia High School where she was a majorette. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ravenna. She had retired after 30 years of service from Kent State University, where she worked as a head cook. She also had worked for the Delta Gamma not only cooking but mentoring numerous young ladies.
Survivors include her children Pauline (Gregory) LaPaugh of Columbus, Whitney Franklin (Barb) Hairston, Jr. of Ravenna, John (Angela) Hairston of Stow, Mark (Faye) Hairston of Ravenna, Gale (Jessie) Younger of Tampa, Florida,
Grandchildren, Melissa Hairston, (Jimmy) Holmes, Melinda Hairston, Malcolm Lewis, Ove’(Thomas) Anderson, Brandon Hairston, Brittany Hairston, Amy Milner, Avery Hairston, Matthew Hairston and Jim Goodwin.
Great grandchildren Whitney Holmes, Jimmie Lee Holmes, Tijuana Anderson, Michael Anderson, Audrey Lewis, Malia Lewis
Siblings Classie May Harris, Bernice Blue, Alvin (Marie) Tolliver, Leonard Tolliver and Ronnie (Lilliea) Tolliver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Whitney Franklin Hairston, Sr., her grandmother Blanch Jackson, her grandson Marion Lewis and her siblings Sharon Tolliver and Chuck Tolliver.
Calling hours will be from 9:30 am until time of funeral services at 11:30 AM Saturday April 12, 2014 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.
