Raymond J Newberger

Raymond J. Newberger, 91, of Shalersville passed away Saturday, September 7th at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna. Ray was born in Akron May 31, 1928 to the late Robert A. and Lucy (Miltner) Newberger. He was a lifelong resident of Shalersville. Ray was a devoted and protective father of four daughters who passed on a strong work ethic developed by years of construction, farming and community service. He worked as an Operating Engineer for John G. Ruhlin Co. where he retired in 1991. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Ray was also a previous member of the Shalersville Zoning Board and Board of Appeals for 8 years, the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Board and a Shalersville Township Trustee for 20 years. He is survived by his children Becky (Dale) Kuchenbecker, Marie (Rick) Podojil, Rita (Vincent) Picone, son-in-law Ken Morris and brother George Newberger all of Shalersville. Grandchildren Amber (Charles) Dickens, Matthew (Michelle) Dusek, Sam (Megan) Podojil, Zach Podojil and Raymond James Morris. Great grandchildren Brendan and Aurora Dickens. Ray is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ruth, June 18, 2019, his daughter Roberta Morris, sisters Rita Hazelton, Isabelle Howe, Lucy Demko and brother Robert Newberger. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Shalersville Town Hall Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 1:00-4:00 PM.
