Richard Earl Bowland

Richard E. Bowland, 82, of Rootstown, formerly of Lyndhurst, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 18, 1931 in Rootstown, to the late, Jessie and Elizabeth (Dixon) Bowland. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna and A veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Richard was retired from General Electric after 29 years of service where he was a computer programmer. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joan (Dietrich) Bowland of Rootstown; sons, Robert (Beverly) Bowland of Cleveland and David (Janie) Bowland of Brimfield; three grandchildren, Sarah, Sam, and Brittany; and great-granddaughter, Hannah. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Ray, and Leonard. There will be no calling hours, a funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10 AM at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Sparling officiating. Interment will follow in Homeland Cemetery, Rootstown.
