Richard L. "Dick" Spellman

Richard "Dick" Lee Spellman, 81, of Randolph, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born on March 1, 1945 in Akron, Ohio to the late James and Alice (Newman) Spellman. Dick spent his childhood helping his parents and siblings work the family farm in Randolph, learning the value and importance of hard work and integrity from a young age. Dick has been a lifelong Randolph resident, graduating from Randolph High School in 1963. He married his beloved high school sweetheart, Delores “Dee” Ann Adelman, on June 19, 1965, and they raised three sons together: David, Daniel, and Dennis.

Dick was the owner and operator of Dick Spellman Trucking. He was a dedicated and talented owner-operator, traveling the majority of the country throughout his career. Dick’s favorite pastime was coaching his sons in baseball, and later in life, attending and supporting his grandchildren at their various sporting and school events. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who deeply loved and adored his family… especially his two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Luke. Dick had a smile that lit up any room, most easily seen when he was playing with his great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, and his family will carry countless fond memories of him in their hearts.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Delores “Dee” Ann (Adelman); his two sons, David (Michelle) Spellman, and Daniel (Maria) Spellman; his five grandchildren, Courtney (Zachary) Thomas, Danielle (James) Helmick, Kyle (Alexandria) Spellman, A.J. Spellman, and Josie Spellman; his two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Luke, and a third great-grandchild expected soon. He is also survived by his brother, Loren (Sue) Spellman, and his sister, Lois Rinehart. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his son, Dennis, in 1983.

Dick was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Randolph. The family has requested cremation and a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Church (St. John Neumann Center) 2643 Waterloo Rd, Mogadore, OH 44260.
