It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Thorp, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who passed away Sunday March 23, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born in Clearfield, PA on June 1, 1938 to the late Russell and Blanche (Spencer) Thorp. Dick was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and has lived in Mantua the past 60 years. He had retired from the Samuel Moore and Company in Mantua and was a member of the Aurora Mennonite Church. Dick grew up with a love for the outdoors and sports that stayed with him throughout his life. He had a natural talent for sports, whether it was throwing horseshoes in the backyard, playing softball, or picking up a friendly game of cornhole with anyone wanting to play. He loved wood working and would happily take anyone down to the barn to show off the latest tree that he fell and cut with his saw mill. He went on many fishing trips with people equal in character to himself and spent countless hours telling his children. grandchildren and great grandchildren the tales from these trips and other events from his life. A man who never met a stranger, Dick's friendly spirit and genuine interest in others made him a friend to everyone he encountered. His warm generosity was felt by all. Dick's true pride and joy was found in his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Lenora, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life. They raised four children together: Lori, Steve, Tammy and Cindy. He was a constant source of love, guidance and support to his children. He taught them not only the value of hard work and perseverance but also the importance of kindness, humor and living life with fullness. He showered his grandchildren with affection, wisdom and playful stories that will be carried on to the next generation. He made every minute count. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Kirk, Jane, Bee, Nellie, Bill, Cork, Glenn and Mona. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Lenora B. (Cromika) Thorp, whom he married August 13, 1960, his children Lori (Tim) Miller, Steven K. Thorp, Tammy L. (George H) Mitchell, Cindy (Sean) Beale, his grandchildren Brock, Carrie, George IV, Cameron (Kristy), Maria, Shelby, Garrison, his great grandchildren Tegan, Emily, Mackenzie, and his sister, Patty Anderson. Calling hours will be Friday March 28, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel.
