Every Thanksgiving from now on will have a very special memorial meaning in the hearts of family and friends of Rita F. Eichler, 94, who passed away peacefully in her sleep Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014. Rita was born November 18, 1920 to Bertha and Joseph Shutler in Ravenna, Ohio and remained a lifelong Ravenna resident, graduating from Ravenna High School. Rita married Paul Eichler and raised two wonderful children, John (Patricia) Eichler of Cuyahoga Falls and Barbara (Duane) Flowers of Randolph. After her husband Paul died in 1969, Rita's strong Catholic faith enabled her to raise her children with deep Christian values, and she remained a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she was involved as an original member of Infant of Prague, Catholic Daughters of America and Young at Heart. Rita worked for many years at the popular Skorman's Discount Store until their closing, and then moved on to work for Robinson Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Over the years, it gave us great pleasure to hear Rita reminisce about all of the wonderful friendships she cherished, many sadly watching them pass on before her. It is her wish to let those who remain know how much she loved each and every one of them and that her loyalty and dedication for them was taken with her in her heart, so she can return that love to them in the eternal kingdom. Preceding her in death besides her husband are her brothers Charles and Walter Shutler and sisters SR Miria O.P., Clara Shutler and Maire Suter. Besides her son John and daughter Barbara, survivors include her grandchildren Melissa Akers (Don Stranathan), Matthew Flowers and Marcia Flowers, her great grandchildren Cameron Klusty, Wyatt Akers, Carson and Luke Flowers and Evan and Adriane Stranathan, dear family friend Kathy Mercury and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 2 - 4 PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Monday, December 1, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father William B. Kraynak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna.
