Robert Alan Atwood, Sr. 68 of Shalersville died Monday, December 29, 2014. He was born July 18, 1946 in Kittaning, PA to Frank and Anna Rea (Emminger) Atwood. Robert was a decorated Vietnam veteran who served in the Navy as a Corpsman with the Marine Corp from 1967 to 1969. He retired in 2008 from Swagelok in Solon where he was a machinist. Robert was a Life Member of the VFW Post #9716 and American Legion #685 in Streetsboro. Survivors include his wife of 20 years Zelma (Lewis), daughters Christine (Todd Newby) Atwood of Cape May, FL and Jill Schuman of Shalersville, son Robert (Stacy) Atwood, Jr. of Hudson, OH, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Carol (Dan) Stanley of East Liverpool, OH and brothers William (Ethel), Donald (LuAnn), Joseph (Judy), and Michael Atwood all of Kittaning, PA, Jack (Judy) Atwood of Indianapolis, IN and Gregory (Joyce) Atwood of Galion, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Chas and Frank, Jr. Calling hours will be from 1 PM to 5 PM Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the funeral home with Deacon Jack Carney officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
