Ronald L Kurtz

Ronald L. Kurtz, 86, of Ravenna died Wednesday evening, May 20, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living (Emeritus) of Ravenna.  He was born June 21, 1928 in Greentown, Ohio to John and Arline (Kuhn) Kurtz.

Following graduation from Ravenna Township High School in 1946, he entered the US Navy where he served on the USS Bremerton and later on the USS Taconic.

Ron married Sara Richards on June 10, 1956.  Before moving to Ravenna in 1997, they lived in Franklin Township with their children Lisa, Kelly and Tom.

Ron built a career as a superintendent and projects manager in heavy highway and bridge construction. After retiring from the Ruhlin Co. in 1993, he worked as a consultant for bridge construction and demolition.

He had a wonderful time during retirement enjoying trips to Key West and Europe with Sara and friends.  He loved to go skiing in Colorado and the Lake Tahoe area. The higher the mountain – the better! Locally, he often took his grandsons skiing at Boston Mills.

Ron was a member of the the First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher before feeling the effects of Parkinson’s and later dementia, Ravenna Elks, and the Parkinson’s support group at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Ron is survived by his wife Sara, daughters Lisa (Michael) Kurtz-Myers of Aurora, Kelly (Michael) Yost of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., son Thomas (Lisa) Kurtz of Strongsville, grandchildren; Blake and Jay Myers, Eric and John Yost, and Drew, Daniel and David Kurtz.  Also surviving are his sisters; Iris Anderson, Yvette Paskey, Judy (Ed) Clark, and Karen “Susy” (Rich) Rabatin, brothers; Jerry (Karen) Kurtz and Leonard “Bud” Kurtz, brothers-in-law Carl Triscori and John Lacy, and sister-in-law Jane King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Thelma Triscori, Ferne Lacy and Virginia Hubbard, and brothers; Jack Burdette Kurtz and Gene Kurtz.

Friends may call at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home in Ravenna from 1:00 – 3:00pm on Saturday, May 23, 2015.  A private family burial will take place at Hawley Cemetery in Paris, Twp.
