Ronald R Rogers

Ronald R. "Ron" Rogers was born December 28, 1931 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Raymond (Hap) and Evelyn Rogers. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1950 and married Shirley Ann Cope, daughter of the late Ralph (Ty) and Marian Cope on Christmas Eve 1951. Ron was a veteran USAF Staff Sgt serving in Korea and French Indochina as a flight engineer on C-119 Flying Boxcars. He was one of a handful of USAF personnel assigned to the French military during the French Indochina war against the Commies. He was active in the Ravenna Hot Stove League for 10 years as a team manager and equipment maintenance man. Ron was a big fan of the  Indians, Browns, Cavs, Buckeyes, and Ravenna Ravens. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was  a member of the Ravenna Moose Club 1234, American Legion Post 331, and a Life Member of the VFW Post 1055 Ravenna. Ron retired from  the Akron Bricklayers Union No7 after 46 years service as a brick mason and masonry supervisor.  He is survived by sons, Russ (Phyllis) and Kelly Rogers, grandchildren, Jeremy, Chris, and Lindsay Rogers, and Drew Twiggs. Great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Brayden Rogers, Asher and Michael Twiggs. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Yvonne (Tom) Miley of Rootstown, and Marilyn (Bill) Ney of Umitilla, FL. Nieces, Michalan Capitoni and Jody Coia. Nephews, Brant Ney, Brad Miley, Kirk  and Kevin Miley, and a cousin, Jo Jo Krueger. At Ron's request, for friends and relatives on Friday, July 26, at 2 p.m., there will be graveside services with military honors at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Ravenna VFW. He was proud of his military service and had the utmost respect for all his comrades that also served.  Arrangements are being entrusted to Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes in Ravenna, OH.
