Russell D. "Pete" Matthews

Russell D. "Pete" Matthews passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with Parkinson's. He was born March 11, 1938 in Scenery Hills, PA to Russell G. and Bernice (Moore) Matthews. Russ worked as an inspector for White Rubber Company until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, camping, mowing the lawn and spending time with his family, especially teaching his grandchildren anything he could. Everyone was a friend and with his big heart he was always willing to lend a hand. He could always be found in his garage working on his amazing carpentry skills. Survivors include the love of his life Thelma (Robertson), children Karen (Jimmy) Anderson, Robert (Robin) Matthews, Tammy (Joe) Frost, Kevin Frost and Connie (Phillip) Hall, grandchildren David (Lisa) Matthews, Michael (Marisa) Smith and Christina (Todd) Hemberger, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Amber Smith, brother Richard J. Matthews, brother and sister in law Pete and Donna Bennett, brother in law Bobby Robertson, sister in law Daisy Hayden and Dorothy and Robert Robertson and his dog Peppy. Calling hours will be from 4 PM until time of funeral service at 6 PM Friday, February 2, 2024 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Private burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or to Hospice of the Western Reserve
