Ruth M. Howitt

July 21, 1932 — October 1, 2013

Ruth Maxine Howitt, 81, left this physical world and passed to her eternal rest on October 1, 2013, at the Heritage of Elmwood nursing home surrounded by those who loved her. Ruth was the oldest child of William and Mary Howitt and grew up in Streetsboro, Ohio. She graduated from Kent State High School. Throughout the years Ruth was employed at Kent State University, Hattie Larlham, flower shops, nursing homes, and at Columbian Vise in Bedford, Ohio. In 1971 Ruth and her daughter moved to Muskego, Wisconsin, where she lived for eight years. Ruth returned home to care for her aging parents. In 2000 Ruth returned to Wisconsin to live with her daughter and family in rural Durand. She resided in Durand until August of 2012 when she became a resident of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. Ruth always loved to be of use and to help others. It is this trait for which she will be most remembered. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ella (John) Shaw of Durand, Wisconsin; her grandsons, Jack and Noah, both of Eau Claire; step-granddaughter Alisa Shaw of Suamico, Wisconsin, and her children, Kyla and Lexi Marks; step-grandson, Andy Shaw of Kaukana, Wisconsin; her brother Elwood (Mary Ann) Howitt of Streetsboro, Ohio; her brother Ernest (Marion) Howitt of Muskego, Wisconsin. Ruth loved her nieces and nephews, Eric (Lisa) Howitt and their children; Wendy Davis and her children, all of Streetsboro; Cheryl Reese and her children, Celina, Ohio; Andy (Debbie) Howitt and children, Appleton, Wisconsin; Beth (Dennis) Thompson and children; Cristy (Terry)Crider and children; Bill (Catherine) Cordell, , all of Florida. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Howitt, and her sister Martha Joan Cordell. Calling hours will be from 2 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, October 7, 2013 at Streetsboro United Methodist Church with Reverend Byron George officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Ruth's family has been especially grateful for the loving and gentle care she received by the employees at Heritage of Elmwood, a non-profit nursing home. It is suggested that any memorials be directed in memory of Ruth to the Heritage of Elmwood, 232 Springer Avenue, Elmwood, Wisconsin 54740 .
