Ruth L. (Sponaugle) Gowdy

Ruth L. Gowdy, 82 of Ravenna passed away peacefully May 29, 2018 at home with her daughters by her side. She was born March 6, 1936 in Gasaway W.V. to the late Arthur and Margaret Sponaugle. Mrs. Gowdy has lived in Ravenna most of her life and retired from both Kroger’s after 27 years and the Ohio Turnpike after 13 years.  She was a member of the Ravenna American Legion Auxiliary Unit 331 for 40 years, she enjoyed going to the Legion in the mornings for coffee and visiting with friends and family. Mrs. Gowdy was a avid Goodwill shopper and enjoyed playing games on her tablet.  Survivors include her daughters: Sandra(William)Davis of Ravenna, Catherine Coia of Streetsboro, Justine Gowdy of Ravenna and Sharon(Harold) Oostdyk of Deerfield. Grandchildren  Jennifer Davis of Streetsboro, Ryan(Jillian)Davis of Canton, Randall Bess of Ravenna. Great Grandchildren: Nadia Bess of Kent, Molly and Delaney Bess of Ravenna. Survivors also include her brother William(Eva)Sponaugle of Freedom, Pearl Horner of Ravenna, and Gay(Byron)Noland of Garrettsville. Brother and sister in-laws, Mary Smerick and Donna(Glenn)Hoover both of Ft. Myers Florida, James Gowdy of Cuyahoga Falls, Kenneth(Autumn)Gowdy of Atwater and Rita(Wayne) Wise of Ravenna. She also leaves her beloved pets Frenchel, Meana and Boo Boo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Vincent Gowdy, her grandson Brandon Coia and Son in-law Donald Coia.  Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12 noon on Staurday June 2, 2018 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.  Private family burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery  Ravenna, Ohio.  Condolences and memories of Ruth may be shared with her family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
