Ruth Ann LaCivita died peacefully Saturday May 2 following a long and courageous battle with COPD. Born January 9, 1935 to Roswell and Leafy Stone she was the youngest of 9 children. Ruth was preceded in death by John, her loving husband of 50 years. She is survived by her two sons, John LaCivita and wife Jill, and Kelly LaCivita (always there for his mom, helping and caring for her daily); granddaughter and light of her life Danielle LaCivita, and great great grandson Little Sammy, grandson Little Kelly LaCivita, and Janet “Peanut” Sabo who was like a daughter to Ruth and always at her side in times of need; special friends Carm Cooper, Emma Smith, and Tran LaCivita; and many nieces and nephews who were so important in her life.
Ruth was known for her boisterous humor and loved being surrounded by people. And people loved Ruth—the testament being the constant flow of family and friends to her home over the years. Her niece Becky Urycki said it best--”she was always everyone's favorite aunt”. Combined with her compassion and caring for others she was known by over two decades of Ravenna school students whom she touched through her work as Ravenna City Schools High School Cafeteria Supervisor.
Ruth was an inspiration to all that knew her and through her many health battles (polio as a child, hip and knee replacements, heart and lung issues) she always had a smile and always found the good in life and in people. Ruth dedicated her life to helping others and through her humor and quick wit always found a way to make others lives better.
In respect of her wishes no services will be held—she'd like all who cared for her to remember her for all of the happiness she brought to their lives. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ruth's honor to Ravenna City Schools Special Needs classes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
