Sandra K. (Deffenbaugh) Byerly

Sandra K. Byerly, 78, of Ravenna passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024 at UH Portage Medical Center. She was born May 4, 1946 in Ravenna to Herman and June (Hall) Deffenbaugh. Sandy spent 50 years of her life serving with the Ravenna Police Department as a dispatcher and as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. Throughout her career, Sandy exemplified the qualities of hard work, integrity, and compassion. Sandy was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. A devoted mother and grandmother, after raising her own six children, she found immense joy in raising her grandson, Lucas, and took great pride in watching him grow. Her home was always warm with the laughter and presence of her loved ones, and her commitment to family was unwavering. Family was the heart of Sandy's world, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. In addition to her family, Sandy had a lifelong love of gardening. Whether tending to her flowers or growing vegetables in her garden, she found peace and happiness in spending time outdoors. Her green thumb was admired by many, and her garden was a reflection of her patience and dedication. Sandy dedicated her life to both her family and her community, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. Sandy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Sandy will always be remembered for her strength, her kindness, and the love she gave so freely to everyone in her life. Survivors include her children John Byerly, Jr., Paul (Heather) Byerly, Matthew (Amy) Byerly, Jenna (Kyle) Seavey, and Katelin (Alec) Womack, 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and siblings James Deffenbaugh, Karen Salamon and June Meduri. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John G. Sr. and daughter Veronica Lynne Byerly. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday, December 6, 2024 at the funeral home with Bill Wisniewski officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
