Shirley V. Huston, 89, of Kent, formerly of Ravenna, passed away at Kent Ridge at Golden Pond with her family by her side. She was born in Woodsfield to the late, George and Lela (Price) Vosper. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ravenna United Church of Christ. Shirley was a school teacher for Freedom Twp. and  then Ravenna City Schools for over 30 years, after she retired, she was a student teacher supervisor for Kent State University for 3 years. Shirley was offered a full scholarship to Perdue University for Aeronautical Engineering, but politely declined. She was an avid bridge player, volunteer for the Christian Cupboard, and a member of Child Guidance, Literary Club, Couples Club, Ravenna Boat Club, and loved to travel. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Don) Ross of Silver Lake, Stephanie (Tom) Burchard of Wyoming, Ohio; son, Gregory ( Bobbi) Huston of Kent; seven grandchildren, Kyle Ross of Chicago, Jordan Ross of Silver Lake, Matthew and Natalie Burchard of Wyoming, Ohio, step-grandson, Gregory Burchard, of Maui, Hawaii, Quinn, Mackenzie, and Connor Huston, of Kent. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded on death by her husband, James F. Huston. Calling hours will be held on Sunday form 4-7 PM at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family would like to thank the kind and professional staff at Kent Ridge and Harbor Light Hospice for their care.
