T. J. Akers went home to the Lord Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born August 20, 1939 in Pikeville, KY to the late John and Pearlie (Hall) Akers. T.J. was a member of Brady Lake Baptist Church for 16 years, where he was an usher and officer for the Church. He enjoyed gardening, his church life, bluegrass music, and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indian Fan. Survivors include his daughters, Mary (Mark Shorder) Messenger of Edinburg, Betty (Tim) Jarvis of Rootstown, Violet (Christopher) Wright of Streetsboro, Rachel (Logan Lindsay) Collins of Kent, step son, Preston (Tralana) Collins of Diamond, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters, Alma (Gerald) Ratliff of Akron, brother, John Akers of Pikeville, KY, many nieces, nephews, friends, and his loved dog and cat, Baby, and Tigger. Besides his parents he was preceded by an infant son, Thomas Jeffery, sisters, Delphia, Katherine, Florene, brothers, Luther, Robert, and L.B. Calling hours will be held 12 till 2 PM Monday, October 3, 2011, followed by the service at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Rev. Virgil Elkins will be officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
