Thomas “Jay” Wilson
March 25, 1969 – January 10, 2026
Thomas Jay Wilson, known to most as Jay, passed away on January 10, 2026, at UH Cleveland Hospital. He was born on March 25, 1969, to Thomas Jack Wilson and Shirley Jean (Ayers) Metheny in Ravenna, Ohio, where he spent much of his life and remained deeply connected to his community.
Jay was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring grandpa, and a good friend to many. He graduated from Ravenna High School and later earned his Associate’s Degree from Fortis College. He worked many years as a custodian for Ravenna Schools, a role through which he took pride in serving the community he loved.
As an active and involved community member, Jay was a proud member of both the VFW and the American Legion. He valued giving back whenever possible, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him, including in death where he donated organs and tissues to 75 people.
His love for the Chicago Bears was well known by family and friends, and game days were a cherished tradition. He also deeply valued time spent with his family and took great pride in being a husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his mother Shirley Jean Metheny; his wife of 29 years Tanya L. (Shope) Wilson, whom he married on 8/9/1996; his daughters Sasha Wilson, Autumn (Kendrick) Jones, and Amber Wilson; his grandchildren Alex, Xavier, and Milly; siblings Joan Dunfee, Teri Fall, Laura Wilson, John Wilson, and Virginia Wilson; along with many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ravenna VFW, in Ohio. Family and friends are welcome to gather to honor Jay’s life, share memories, and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
