Troy W. Smith 85, of Streetsboro, passed away Tuesday December 15, 2015, at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born September 8, 1930, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Thomas E. and Flora H. Smith. Mr. Smith has lived in Streetsboro since 1957 and was a member of the Kent Freewill Baptist Church. He retired in 1985 from the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills after 32 years of service, where he worked as truck repairman. Mr. Smith was very active in his community. He served as a special deputy for 25 years for the Portage County Sheriff 's Department. He was also a longtime member of the Streetsboro Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War, a 32nd degree mason with the F&AM Charity #530 Lodge in Deerfield, Ohio, a member of the Tadmor Temple and enjoyed riding his Harley, and boating. He was a skilled mechanic and could fix any vehicle with wheels. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth A. Smith, his children Doris (Kenneth) Papp, Michael Smith, Karen (James) Scott, Ira (Gerald) Smith, nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. Calling hours will be Friday December 18, 2015, from 4-7 pm at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel, where funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday December 19, 2015, with Rev. Bill Snyder officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery Streetsboro, Ohio. In honor of Mr. Smith's passion for the welfare of animals, contributions may be made to the Portage Animal Protective League in lieu of flowers.
