Vernon “Kenny” King

January 1, 1944 - March 1, 2023

On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children at University Hospital Portage Medical Center, Kenny King succumbed to a long-term illness. His pain and suffering has ended and memories linger. Longtime carpet installer, avid fisherman, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and cousin, he was loved by so many. Kenny was born in Stinson, West Virginia, and lived between Suffield, Ohio, and Coolville, Ohio, for most of his childhood. He raised his kids in Baltimore, Maryland, before returning to Ravenna, Ohio where he has lived for the past decades. Taking many fishing trips to Geneva-on-the-Lake or the Outer Banks, he loved going on adventures with his family. Kenny is preceded in death by his mom, Valley Wheeler, daughter-in-law Bonnie King, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Altabell King, as well as his children, Morticia (Jim) Williamson, Vernon (Jane) King, Lettie (Cecil) Keene, William King, and Timothy (Lisa Tucker) Walraven. Along with his many grandchildren, Danny Peppeard, Trisha (Vickie) Tenney, Cory (Ana) Peppeard, Sommer (Luke Hathaway) King, Dakota King, Dalton King, Darin (Amanda) Cleavenger, Serina (Velece O’Conke) Cleavenger, Kayla (Clayton) Lovejoy, Ashley (Patrick Hahe) King, Zachary (Kelley) King, Aaralyn Walraven, and Finley Walraven. As well as great grandkids Grayson, Finnick, Ella, Michael, Magnus, Darin, Arya, Brooklynn, Nevaeh, Kolton, Dausan, Charleigh, Ryan, and Madison. Along with cousins Karen (Clyde) Duley, Karen (Bob Richards) McKnown, Betty McDonald and Calhoun Alltop. Kenny’s life will be celebrated by family and friends with calling hours Sunday March 5, 2023 from 2:00PM until time of funeral services at 4:00 PM at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home in Ravenna with Chaplain Bill Wisniewski officiating.  Committal services will be 1:00 PM Monday March 6, 2023 at Coolville Cemetery Coolvillw, Ohio.  Condolences and memories of Kenny may be shared at www.sscfuneralhomes.com
