 
  
 Vincent T. Gowdy 78 of Ravenna passed away Monday August 20, 2012 at Akron General Hospital. He was born October 16, 1933 in Akron, Ohio to the late Edwin and Justine (Arend) Gowdy. Mr. Gowdy has lived in Ravenna most of his life and retired from Evenflo in 1994 after 44 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of the Ravenna American Legion post 331, where he was the canteen manager for 37 years, a lifetime member of the Ravenna Eagles #2164 and a founding member of the Ravenna Rod & Gun Club. Survivors include his wife Ruth (Sponaugle) Gowdy whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 26, 2012, his daughters Sandy (Bill) Gowdy-Davis of Ravenna, Cathy (Don) Gowdy-Coia of White, GA, Justine Gowdy of Ravenna, Sharon (Harold) Oostdyk of Deerfield, his grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) Deweese of Akron, Ryan Davis, Randall (Katie) Bess of Mantua, great grandchildren Nadia and Molly Bess. Survivors also include his brothers James Gowdy of Cuyahoga Falls, Kenneth (Autumn) Gowdy of Atwater and sisters Rita (Wayne) Wise of Ravenna, Mary Smerick and Donna (Glenn) Hoover both of Ft. Myers, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Brandon Coia and brothers Richard and Marvin Gowdy. Calling hours will be Thursday August 23, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel where funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday August 24, 2012 with Father John Madden officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Ravenna, Ohio with Military Honors by The Ravenna VFW.
