Virginia "Jean" Marie Gembar passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at The Woodlands in Ravenna. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on November 28, 1918 to John and Julia (Burich) Fergus, she has lived in Ravenna since 1950. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church since moving to Ravenna. After retiring from Pyramid Rubber (Evenflo) where she worked for 20 years, she took many trips, some with friends, and others with her sisters and children. One of her most exciting trips was to Alaska where she went deep sea fishing. She loved playing bingo and gambling, especially trips to Las Vegas. Her six grandchildren adored her, and she loved them. When they were little, she could always be found cheering at their school functions, tending to skinned knees and hosting sleepovers, during which she treated them to tea, games of gin rummy and an episode of "Love Boat." She treated her family with her legendary cheesecake, pizelles, kolache and zucchini bread made with vegetables picked fresh from her garden. She will be missed and always loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We were blessed to have had her in our lives for so many years. She is survived by sons John of Ravenna, Bill (Wanona) of Ravenna, and daughter Virginia "Ginger" (Ed) Pittman of Kent. Grandchildren Kristen (Ken) Alltucker of Phoenix, Arizona; Julie (Chris) O'Neill of Ravenna; Kimberly Del Guzzi of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Karin (Nick) Pires of Yarmouth, Maine; Jason (Amy) Gembar of Hartville; and Brent (Gaby) Del Guzzi of Davenport, Florida. Great grandchildren, Austin and Chandler Gembar; Rocco and Gina Buccilli; Nathan, Jillian and Joanna Pires; Kennedy and Grace Alltucker; Sophia and Alyssa DelGuzzi; and sisters Jane Schiffer, Marlene Petro and Susan Sakara. She was preceded by husband Frank; brothers Martin, John, Pat, and Bob Fergus; sisters Betty Fabrizio, Cecelia (Sis) Kaminski, Ruth Hanni and Rita Cerny. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM Friday, May 3, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Father John Madden officiating. A Private Entombment will be held in St. Mary Cemetery.
