Walter Fahrny 83 of Rootstown passed away Friday, August 2, 2013. He was born June 1, 1930 in Stow to the late Fred and Lois (Kierce) Fahrny. Walter started his life out as a boy in Stow, helping his father run the farm. With the love of farming he moved to Rootstown and started his own business “Fahrny’s Lawn and Garden.” During these years he served on the local, Portage, and State school boards, and spent many hours volunteering his time with the Lions Club. He was also a lifelong member of the Grange. After retiring he took up his love for gardening and woodworking (making many items for family members). He will also be remembered for taking his wife, Shirley, of 62 years dancing. He was very proud of his three children. He often spoke of his five grandchildren’s achievements and his face would light up when the four great grandchildren where around. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley (Schiesser) Fahrny, druthers, Nancy (Donald) Fahrny of Rootstown, Carol (Ronald) Feciuch of Rootstown, son, Christian (Barb) Fahrny of Atwater, grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Becky, Brian, Jeffrey, great grandchildren, Alyssa, Drew, Aric, and Ethan. There will be a service at Rootstown Homeland Cemetery for family and friends Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11:00am. There will be no calling hours. The family wishes to express special thanks to all visiting nurses, hospice, hospital nurses and special caregivers who cared for Walter. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Rootstown Fire Department.
