Walter Samuel Wilson

February 18, 1932 — October 18, 2024

Ravenna

Walter Samuel Wilson, 92, of Ravenna, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, after an extended illness. He was born February 18, 1932, in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Paul and Melva (Culler) Wilson.

Walter lived an abundant life with his wife, Dorothy, by his side for a little over 69 years. They married September 3, 1955, just after Walter returned home to Ravenna after serving the country as a sergeant in the US Army, deployed to Korea, and then in the National Guard. He then spent his entire career as a title examiner for Loomis-Jones-Wilson Attorneys in Ravenna, proudly raising four children in the town where he grew up.

Being surrounded by friends and family brought Walter happiness and a smile to his face. From spending time with his adult children, to watching his grandchildren excel in careers and great-grandchildren laugh and play – family meant the world to Walter, and he was very proud of them.

As an avid Cleveland Browns fan, he watched the game every week, usually with family. Walter enjoyed his time as an Elks member for many years and rarely missed a Wednesday evening playing euchre and dinner on Fridays with Dorothy and their friends. He had a true appreciation for a solid American-made automobile, and when it came to golf, Wally believed that “A bad day of golf is 100 times better than a good day at work.”

Over the years, Walter enjoyed spending time with friends near and far – from dinners out, to road trips, cruises and other travels. Walter also loved his hometown and was involved in the community in a variety of ways. He was a long-time member of the Ravenna First United Methodist Church and also served as treasurer for Ravenna Rotary and the Ravenna Band Boosters. In retirement, he was a regular at Giant Eagle for coffee and a cookie with other Ravenna men. He commented that occasionally they even invited Democrats to join them.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul and Ron Wilson. He is survived by his wife Dorothy J. (Needles) Wilson, children Lori (Richard) Jacek, Karen Johnson, Janet (Rev. Bruce) Hartley and Scott (Lisa Pfeilsticker) Wilson, grandchildren Julie (Ian) Bookmiller; Susan (Nick) Sudzina; Megan (Dustin) Ford; Andrew (Heather) Jacek; Emily (Andrew Lee) Johnson; and Lara (Jeremy) Vainavicz; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ada, Lydia, Arya, Emma, Claira, Kelsey, Maria, Lucas, Nathaniel and Enzo.

On Wednesday, October 23, calling hours will be from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Ravenna First United Methodist Church, 263 S. Prospect Street, Ravenna, OH 44266.
