William L. "Bill" Cockerham

William “Bill” L. Cockerham, age 86, of Bedford, OH passed away on October 24, 2016. William was born on June 2, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to the late Avery and Grace Cockerham. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Shirley J. Cockerham, and by his sisters Norma Bingham and Lois Matheny. Bill is survived by his children; Jane Bennett of Bedford, Judy (Eric) Meahl of Valleyview, and James (Michelle) Cockerham of Parma. His memory is also cherished by his brother Leslie Cockerham of Tallmadge, by his 5 grandchildren; Shannon (Tim), Justin, Brittany, Tyler, Aaron, and by 7 great-grand children. Bill was a former employ of Lutheran Medical Center and Bennett Heating&Cooling, and worked as an engineer for the City of Akron. Bill will be remembered for his kindness and his handiwork. He was a true Christan, who would serve others without judgment. He would work on neighbors’ cars, or home appliances, he would also donate his time and labor to churches in need.  He was talented at bookkeeping, he never lost a receipt. In fact he once bought a muffler with a lifetime guarantee, and ended up getting 19 mufflers, for the price of one. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 26, 2016 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home’s Ravenna Chapel from 6-8PM. There will be an additional calling hour on Thursday October 27, 2016, from 11AM-12PM. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Jeremy Schweyer, at 12PM, interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
