William H Hartung

August 14, 1922 — February 4, 2012

William Hartung, Sr 89 of Ravenna went to be with the Lord on February 4th. A World War II Army veteran, Bill survived the Battle of Monte Casino, the Battle of the Bulge, and Anzio during his service in the infantry. He was awarded two purple hearts, a bronze star, and recently a medal of honor from the French government for his service with the 143th Regiment, 36th Division.  Bill was a 100% service-connected disabled veteran due to his service in World War II. He shared his war stories with students at area schools in his later years.  Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA and was a resident of Streetsboro and Ravenna since 1964. He was a member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church where he attended regularly. Bill played semi-professional football in Pittsburgh, and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.  Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion; son Bill Jr. (Mary Beth), daughter Marilyn McLat (Luis); grandsons Brandon Ruyten (Mary), Andy Laflame (Charlotte), Josiah McLat, Jairus McLat, Joel McLat, and Victor McLat; grand-daughters Amaris McLat, Miranda McLat (Pedro), and Havelah McLat; and great-grandchildren Adam Ruyten, Andrew LaFlame and Danielle LaFlame. Bill is also survived by his brother Harry Hartung of Sunriver, Oregon. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2012 at Streetsboro United Methodist Church where calling hours will also be held from 10:00 AM till time of the service. Rev Byron George will be officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery Following the service.
