William Louis Kraverath

October 26, 1933 — February 23, 2023

William Kraverath, 89, a long time Hudson resident, passed away quietly in his sleep in the early morning of February 23, 2023. Bill was born on October 26, 1933, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, to William and Helen Kraverath. On Long Island he attended primary through High School, and where he developed a New York accent and sensibility that he never lost. Bill joined the Navy in search of himself and, following boot camp at Great Lakes and subsequent training, served as an Electronics Technician (ET) mostly on small boats – salvage and recovery ships - in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. On shore he would often venture on his trusty bike far from port, where he embraced a love for photography to capture exotic places like Rome, Puerto Rico, North Africa and Gibraltar. Later, while posted at a communications station in Northern Ireland, Bill met the love of his life, Evelyn. They were married in Londonderry before boarding a Liberty ship bound for New York (and passing through a Hurricane, but that’s for another story). Following the Navy, Bill used his GI Bill benefits to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, leading the way to a career in ultrasonics sales with Westinghouse and in welding sales with a variety of companies. Following a transfer to northern Ohio in 1973, Bill moved to Hudson where he and Eve eventually bought an old Sears and Roebucks catalog house, and brought it back to a place worthy to showcase their many antiques. It was there, over the course of the next 40 years, that children and grand-children would gather for countless Thanksgivings and Christmas celebrations. Bill loved to sing, he loved to fish, to act, to paint, to read, to work in his garden and listen to music. His greatest joy, however, was interacting with people, and swapping jokes and stories. His smile and manner will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eve, his children: Judy Detzel, Bill and Scott Kraverath along with 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Condolences and memories of Bill may be shared at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
