Alverna H. Kline, 85, of Rootstown passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Vista Veranda in Ravenna. She was born June 22, 1936 in Louisville, Ohio to Beda and Frieda (Schafer) Michel.
Alverna graduated from Louisville High School, was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Young at Heart and was an original member of the Friday Night 500 card club which she belonged to for over fifty years. She also worked at Ohio Bell. She then became a homemaker and spent her time raising her four children along with her husband, James of 55 years. She loved the many, many babies and children that she babysat for over the years. She was a 4-H leader, worked at the voting polls for over 25 years, enjoyed square dancing, flower gardening, bowling and all kinds of card games. Alverna was a gifted seamstress who could work miracles with a needle and thread. She saved the day for many brides and could make or alter just about anything even without a pattern. We are all going to miss her homemade noodles and fabulous pies. She and her husband, Jim, enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and meeting new friends from all over the country and Canada who joined them as snowbirds. Survivors include her children Deborah (Richard) Lansinger, Michele (Dave) Gimmel, Luanna (Andy) Youngblood and Michael Kline (Shelley Jolly), grandchildren Adam (Jessica) Lansinger, Erin (CJ) Smith, Laura (Jamal) Saxton, Amy Gimmel, Paul Gimmel, Drew Youngblood (Brianne Porter), Emily (Rane) Sommers, Brittany (Matt) Kaminski and Ashley Kline (Alex Pemberton), great granddaughter Breanna Smith, sisters Ardell Bolanz, Janet Schockling and LaVera Paumier and great neighbors Patti Sill, Pete (Judy) Lorenz and the late Jack Sill. She was preceded in death by her husband James Kline and infant daughter Karen. Due to COVID concerns there will be a private family service with burial in Grandview Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Yanelli, Vista Veranda staff and Brookdale Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Immaculate Conception Church.
