Carla Jacobs Obituary

Carla Mae Jacobs, 81, of Ravenna, OH was taken home by the angels on November 2, 2020. She was born on October 21, 1939 in Akron, Ohio to Carl and Waneta (Boord) Simpson. She grew up in Brady Lake and graduated from Ravenna Township High School in 1958. Carla married Chester Jacobs, Sr. on June 11, 1960. She always enjoyed being a caregiver and worked at the Portage County Nursing Home as a nurses aide for many years before deciding to go to nursing school. In 1975 she graduated from Cuyahoga Falls School of Nursing with her LPN degree. She gave loving care to those at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Hattie Larlham, a private duty cancer patient and of course her favorite, the elderly at the nursing home. After retiring from nursing, she worked at the Kent Ponderosa filling the salad bar. She loved this job because she got to work with a lot of "young people who kept her young." Carla enjoyed family vacations, especially cruises, crocheting, bingo, family picnics, casinos, helping others, volunteering at the County Clothing Center, playing cards and Elvis impersonators. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Kent for many years, and always enjoyed the children's Christmans program. She was a wonderful and loving mother, Christian and caregiver. Her calling was helping people. She was always the first to send a card to others for encouragement or support. She made monthly food donations to the Center of Hope. She will always be remembered for all the colorful hats she wore. She leaves behind her children Chester Jacobs, Jr.,  Terry Jacobs, Karen Williams and Darlene (Joe) Raabe, siblings Charles (Kathleen) Simpson, Calvert (Leslie) Simpson, Richard Simpson, Dennis Simpson, Kay (Jerry) Kanode and Debbie Travise and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester Jacobs, son Robert Jacobs, siblings Kenneth Simpson and Nancy Townend and great great grandson Hunter Thomas. There will be no services at this time due to Covid 19, but there will be a celebration of life at a later date. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Crossroads Hospice and some of the caregivers at Longmeadow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
