Delbert Owens Obituary

Delbert R (Red) Owens, Born April 21, 1937, in Beaverdale, PA and passed peacefully into his new life, on September 30, 2021.  He suffered from Alzheimer disease, and it ultimately robbed him of his memories.   He leaves behind Shirley, his loving wife of 63 years, their three children Eric and wife Beth, Tamara and husband Jim and Douglas and wife Jen.  Six grandchildren Ryan, who preceded him in death, Jason, Drew and wife Mary, Katlin and husband Matt, Jack, Mason and 5 great grandchildren, Luke, Kathryn, Bridget, Claire, Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews.  Red was the son of Evan and Ruth Owens and had 4 siblings. Evan Owens, wife Lorraine, Ruth Ann Lucas and husband Terry deceased, Robert Owens, wife Lois and Mary Barch husband Jim deceased.    Red was a hardworking man and wonderful provider for his family.  He worked for the General Electric Company and retired after 45 years.  He was a star football player in high school and a (not so great) golfer, but he didn’t let that stop him. He had the cleanest cars in town and enjoyed tinkering in the garage.  Red was a kind and special man that would go out of his way to help anyone in need.  He will be missed by many, but mostly his family who remained close to him until the end.  Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Greatest East Ohio Area Chapter 70 West Streetsboro Street, Suite 101, Hudson, Ohio 44236 or Crossroads Hospice 9775 Rockside Road, Suite 270, Valley View, OH 44125.  Condolences and memories of Red may be shared with his family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
