Frank (Billy) D. Fields passed away Sunday, February 9th 2020 after a brief illness at 85 years old. Frank was a resident of Ravenna, Ohio since moving there at age 18 from Columbus, Mississippi where he was born on March 5th 1934. He was well known in his community for being a highly skilled laborer, with multiple jobs, and having a heart of gold. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, going to the racetrack to bet on the horses, and watching baseball. He also enjoyed traveling and taking trips with his long- time companion, and best friend of 60 plus years, Carolyn Upshaw.
Frank is survived by Carolyn Upshaw of Ravenna, their sons; Donald Upshaw of Ravenna, Sylvester Upshaw of Akron, and their daughter, Cynthea (Monty) Upshaw-Jones of Kent. He had four grandchildren, Ashley Boykin, Sylvester (Jeanise) Upshaw Jr., Donnell Upshaw, and Xavier(Ashanti) Upshaw, and 7 great grandchildren; Quentin, Ayden, Dalaina, Carter, Korey, Tylur, and Xavier. He also leaves behind his brother; Babe (Joanne) Fields. Sisters; Betty Brown, and Janet Bailey, along with several nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Maude Fields; brothers; Robert Fields, Clarence Fields, Willie George, Joseph Fields, and Hugh “Buddy” Fields; sisters, Allie and Queen Esther, Edith King, Dessie Fields, and son, Mark Upshaw.
A memorial will take place at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Flowers may be sent to the church. Contributions may be made in his honor to Portage Community Bank.
