Fred J Gauer

Fred J. Gauer 86 of Ravenna passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at his residence with his wife, Frances by his side. He was born December 13, 1935 in Ravenna to Eugene C. and Edna P. (Vonstein) Gauer. Fred was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight until his retirement and then became active as a past president of the Rootstown Lions Club and the Senior Bowling League at Twin Star Lanes. Fred had a full life. He and Frances enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, and fishing, walleye fishing being his favorite. They were blessed to visit all 50 states, 8 different countries, and several of the Canadian providences. He was an avid bowler in several leagues during his lifetime, bowling his first 300 game at the age of 71. He also enjoyed being in card clubs, euchre being his game of choice. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, and high school sweetheart,  Frances (Carpenter), for who he built their very first home by himself for her, son Gary (Becky) Gauer of Rootstown and daughter Marilyn (David) Ashe of Hudson. He was "Papaw" to 6 grandchildren, Paul and Nick (Sarah) Battaglia, Rick and Ashley Gauer, Lindsey (Andy) Metzger, and DJ Ashe and 4 great-grandchildren, that brought him so much joy in his final years, Ella and Maddie Battaglia and Conor and Maisie Metzger. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald E. Gauer. Calling hours will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
