Gary Mascio, 75, of Ravenna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 1, 2022 following a brief illness. Gary was born on February 6, 1947 in Ravenna to Olindo and Dorothea (Bargar) Mascio. He was a lifelong resident of the area where he attended Immaculate Conception School, graduated from Ravenna High School, and attended Walsh College. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. Gary was previously employed at Thistledown Racetrack and worked there for a number of years with his Dad and many extended family members. He loved to reminisce about the large family gatherings held at the home of his Aunt Florence and Uncle Mike Marcello. To say that Gary enjoyed sports is an understatement. He especially loved his Cleveland teams and attended many games to cheer on the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers. He was a lifelong Ohio State fan and enjoyed Professional Wrestling. Listening to music was a favorite pastime, particularly 60’s and 70’s rock. Gary is survived by his brother, Nicholas (Susan) Mascio, niece and goddaughter Erica, nephew, David, as well as many cousins. They loved spending the holidays with Uncle Gary. He enjoyed walking their dog, Emma, and giving her treats. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Kent Elks Lodge #1377, located at 2265 Erie Street in Kent. The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Veranda in Ravenna where Gary resided for the past few years. While there, he received outstanding care and formed many close friendships. They would also like to thank the staff at University Hospital in Ravenna and Cleveland for their excellent care and compassion. Condolences may be shared at sscfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Portage County APL or the donors favorite charity.
