Herman Leroy "Lee" Counts 100 of Ravenna started his earthly journey on August 18, 1921 in Pomaria, South Carolina. he was born to the late Julius Caesar and Hattie (Curry) Counts. As World War II began, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in France and Germany. Mr. Counts and his wife Bernice relocated to the Ravenna area in the 1950's and he began his Ohio work career at the Ravenna Arsenal, Rockwell International and lastly retired from Parker Hannifin. Lee, as he was affectionately known had no biological children of his own, but he was always surrounded by them and his yard was where the children in the neighborhood would gather. He was known as a kind, patient and respectful man. Mr. Counts' hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, playing cards and traveling. His service to his community included a volunteer and honorary board member to the Skeels Mathews Community Center for 30 years, lifetime member of the NAACP and a member of the VFW Post 1055. Upon movng to Ravenna, he united with Allen Chapel A.M. E. Church where he serves as a Sunday School Teacher, steward and choir member. In addition to his parents, Mr. Counts was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, stepson Stanley, siblings Evelyn, Elnora, Pal, Pearl, Mary and Ovid. Those left to cherish his memory include his great nephew and primary caregiver, Antoine Bishop and other caregivers Jackie and Willie Bell, Luther and Marie Fortson, Naomi Wilmington, the children of long time special friend Barbara Logan (now Deceased), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
