Hugh Mahan Obituary

Hugh W. Mahan 84 of Ravenna passed away Friday, September 11, 2020. He was born June 4, 1936 in Ravenna to Hugh P. and Clara (Kohl) Mahan. He was a US Air Force veteran, served as a Patrolman for the Ravenna Police Department, later in life was a driver for PARTA, but spent most of his adult life as a thoroughbred horse trainer. Hugh was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Ravenna Elks, Ravenna Lions, and Ravenna Moose. Survivors include his sons Ralph (Christine) D'Amico and Tony (Mindy) D'Amico, and daughter Carrie, grandchildren Sean, Ryan, Anthony, Austin, Patrick, Sunshynne and Summer, great grandchildren Owen, Miles, Tatum, Luca, Sloane, Anthony and Layla, brothers Joe and Jim Mahan and sister-in-law Virginia Mahan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, his son Scott Mahan, and his siblings Bill and Bob Mahan, Betty Conger, Jerry Mahan, Judy Brunner, and Jack Mahan. Hugh loved life, he loved people, he had a passion for horse racing and he enjoyed golf and his beer.  Born and raised in Ravenna, Hugh had wonderful friends, including decades of friendship with David "Stank" Stankavich. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Kent Elks Club.
