James Curtiss Kent, 74 of Rootstown, passed away on Wednesday May 27, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. On July 31, 1945, he was born in Ravenna, Ohio to James A. and Vivian E. (Curtiss) Kent. He lived in Rootstown most of his life and was the owner of Technidrill Systems in Kent, Ohio. He was a highly respected mechanical engineer who designed and produced deep hole drilling machines. James and his work were known worldwide. James proudly served in the National Guard after high school. He was also well known for over 20 years as a volunteer fireman in Rootstown. James’s favorite hobbies were taking trips to Lake Erie where he loved boating and fishing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his wife and friends, cruising around the world, spending his time with his grandchildren, and devouring his favorite chocolate desserts. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Patricia S. (Swalcy) Kent whom he married February 4, 1967, his mother Vivian Kent, his daughters Shelley Moore, Cheryl (Chad) Breece, his grandchildren Kaitlynn Moore, Alyssa Swope, Jessica Moore, Nathan Moore, his great grandchildren Dominic Bell, Jackson James Noe, and brother in laws Jim Swalcy and Joe Swalcy. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Kent and his grandmother Lucille Curtiss. In honoring his request, cremation has taken place.
