James King Obituary

James L. King (Jimmy) of Rootstown passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 of pancreatic cancer. Jim was born to Larry and Esther King of Rootstown July 8, 1946. He attended Ravenna School and Rootstown School where he owns the record in track in the 100 yard dash and 220. After graduation, Jim started working for Lamson and Sessions in 1964. He worked for the company as a millright and supervisor for 42 years. He joined the Ravenna National Guard in 1966 for 6 years. Jim loved vacations every year with family, fishing, golf, bowling, bocce, and loved to mow the grass at the Moose Club. We called him Forrest Gump! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David King. He is survived by his wife Cheryl whom he was married to for 55 years, his daughters Kari King and Shannon Smith (Steve), and son James King II. His sister Carolyn Curry (King) and sister-in-law  Erma (David) King. He leaves 5 grandchildren Jordan Scott, Sydnee Smith, Jett King, Sophia King and Ava King. Jim  also loved watching every sport his children and grandchildren was playing and tried not to miss any games. Cremation is taking place and a celebration of life will be Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 3:00PM at the Ravenna Moose club located at 5727 State Route 14, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. We would like to thank Harmony Hospice Care for all that they have done for Jim and us as a family. In lieu of flowers, the family will be picking a place for Jim that he wants donations to go to.
